1. What is the role of a SmartCom headhunter in the Search Process?
Our role is to find the best qualified candidates for our Client companies.
2. As a Candidate, how do I benefit by interacting with a SmartCom direct or affiliate recruiter?
We may, or may not, have a particular position in which to discuss at the point of contact - either a direct inquiry from a Candidate - or a LinkedIn connection request by a SmartCom recruiter. By accepting this call - we remain mindful of the Candidate's skillset- so when we engage in a Client search - we prioritize that individual for that search.
3. If a Candidate sends a resume to SmartCom - and the document is not sent for a particular role discussed - what happens to it?
SmartCom has a strict policy NOT to send a resume to a client unless given permission by the Candidate. This means- we don't "shotgun" resumes into the hemisphere with hopes of getting attention by an employer. A. We consider this a highly unethical practice. B. It's a complete waste of our time. C. Candidates get outraged. So- Candidates- Not Happening.
4. How does SmartCom get paid?
We are a mixed practice. We have retained searches - which means an Employer-Client will pay us upfront on a (usually higher level executive or urgent UNICORN) search. The majority of our fees are based on satisfactory completion of a search.
5. When does SmartCom get paid?
The majority of searches will be paid within 30-45 days of Candidate start date- however - there are times when an extended Candidate tenure is agreed upon - and payment is made first day after that completion.
6. Does SmartCom assist in Salary negotiation?
This is a good question - but the answer entirely depends upon the Client. In approximately 60% of the cases - at Offer Stage - we may have a dialog with the hiring leader - and remind of the value to the organization of a particular Candidate, the difficulty in finding another Candidate with equal skills and the length of time the Client has been searching for the role. In other cases, SmartCom is strictly prohibited from "lobbying" on behalf of the Candidate for higher pay or greater benefits.
7. Why can we sometimes not reveal the name of a Client to a Candidate?
We are often required by a Client not to reveal the name. Regretfully - some Candidates will respond - No Company name, no conversation. Okay- it happens - rarely - but it happens. This measure doesn't change the agreement we made with our Paying Clients - which means - that Candidate missed out on a potentially great opportunity - and we, likewise, missed out on a mighty fine Candidate. Time to move along.
8. What can a Client company expect from SmartCom?
SmartCom will not waste the time of a hiring leader with Candidates that do not fit the explicit job description. We are not "paper hangers". Once a Candidate reaches the stage - in our evaluation - thought to be suitable for a role - we will obtain agreement with the Candidate to send the resume for review - and in most cases - arrange the first interview.
9. What are the intangibles our Clients receive from partnering with SmartCom Consultants?
We play by the rules. We are passionate about our Client's success. What sets us apart is a geunine passion for helping others. We focus on results. We won't waste our Client's time. We're honest and transparent.
10. Will we ever charge our Candidates for search efforts?
Absolutely not. It's shocking to hear some companies do this. Can't even believe that's a thing.
